Pet Partners is a national non-profit organization that provides comfort
and stress relief for patients by letting them visit and interact with
therapy animals. The Teton County Pet Partner chapter currently works
at C-V Ranch, St. John’s Medical Center, Morning Star Senior Living
Center, and with the National Military Family Association. This is a very
popular program at St. John's that has made a tremendous difference
in the mood and outlook of our patients.
You can volunteer at Pet Partners
through their website. If you have a pet you may even be able to register it as a therapy animal,
but this is not required to volunteer through their program.
Spiritual Care Volunteers
Spiritual care is a non-denominational volunteer program that provides
spiritual support to patients, residents, and their families. Volunteers
meet once a month and undergo training and shadowing before working on
their own. Responsibilities include listening, praying if requested, contacting
a clergy member or spiritual guide if necessary, or simply visiting with
someone in need of company. This valued service provides comfort and support
to patients and guests of all faiths or non-faiths.
The “Volunteens” program is open to students age 13 to 17.
Participants serve in many areas of the hospital and provide comfort to
patients. Volunteers will be thoroughly educated on proper hospital etiquette.
This is a great program for teens who have an interest in the medical
field or who just want to help their community. Please fill out the
Volunteens application form if interested.
