The board of St. John's Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce
that it has named John G. Goettler as its new president. Mr. Goettler
will assume the role vacated by former director Liz Finegan, who was responsible
for hospital fundraising since 2008.
Established in 1999, the mission of St. John’s Hospital Foundation
is to broaden the community’s understanding of and support for St.
John’s Medical Center. According to St. John's Medical Center
CEO, Lou Hochheiser, "The Foundation has played a major role in fundraising
for the hospital, raising $25 million to provide staff education opportunities,
purchase lifesaving equipment, and support critical facilities expansions."
The Foundation engaged the Greenwood Company to lead a nationwide search,
which attracted over 60 candidates. After an extensive interview process
with three final candidates in mid-October, John Goettler accepted the
position on November 3.
Mr. Goettler brings with him over 25 years of experience, including many
years as president of Goettler Associates, a fundraising consulting firm
that has served more than 1,500 non-profit organizations since its founding in 1965.
Over the course of his career, he has provided capital campaign planning
services, major and planned gift counsel, annual fund evaluation and analytics,
board development, and staff and volunteer training to hundreds of non-profit
Healthcare organizations that have engaged the services of Goettler Associates
include Lakewood Hospital (a member of the Cleveland Clinic Network),
Central Michigan Community Hospital, Bon Secours Richmond Healthcare Foundation,
Bayhealth Medical Center and Bayhealth Foundation, and Union Hospital.
Non-profit organizations seeking counsel from Goettler Associates include
the Baltimore Zoo, the National Aviary, The Salvation Army, and The Mark
Twain House, the United States Parachute Association, and the Akron Art
Museum, among others.
Mr. Goettler believes that "the most exciting aspect of this position
is the opportunity to work with the volunteer leadership of the St. John’s
Hospital Foundation, the hospital CEO and board, and the medical staff
on the implementation of a plan that elevates the performance of the Foundation
and engages stakeholders and the community in efforts to ensure the success
of the Medical Center going forward."
Mr. Goettler holds a BA in Economics from Indiana University and is a Certified
Fund Raising Executive as issued by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Mr. Goettler began his duties with the Foundation this week and will be
joined in Jackson by his wife Valerie and their three children in January.
Chairman of the Foundation board Phil Coosaia said, "I am delighted
that John Goettler is the new president of the St. John's Hospital
Foundation. He brings a strong record of achievement in fundraising for
non-profit organizations and medical facilities. With his experience,
energy, and passion, John will be a great asset to our organization and
