This November, St. John's Medical Center will host a number of activities
to recognize National Diabetes Month.
St. John's Diabetes Education will hold a type 2 diabetes screening
on Tuesday, November 19th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The screening will
include checking each person's weight, blood sugar levels, A1C, and
blood pressure as well as providing basic nutrition information.
People at risk for type 2 diabetes are those who are over the age of 45;
have a family history of diabetes; are overweight; do not exercise regularly;
have low HDL cholesterol, high triglycerides, or high blood pressure;
and, in the case of women, had gestational diabetes.
The suggested donation for the screening is $10. Call 739-7620 for information
and to schedule your appointment.
Diabetes Education also conducts group meetings for people with type 2
diabetes. The next meeting is on Tuesday, December 17, from 1:00 to 2:15
pm, and will address celebrating the holidays with diabetes. A free gift
will be provided to each attendee. Please call 739-7620 to RSVP.
In January, a new, eight-week diabetes support group will begin. Call 739-7260
St. John's Diabetes Education also offers "Mind Body Skills"
groups, led by Maureen Molinari. Call 739-7620 to sign up for the next
