St. John’s Medical Center announces two new cancer support groups
-- one for caregivers and one for patients and survivors.
Facilitated by social worker Sharon Walls, LMFT, and cancer survivor Carol
Poole, RN, OCN, the caregiver support group is open to family members
and others providing care to cancer patients. Meetings are held on the
first Thursday of every month from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Eagle classroom.
The support group for cancer patients and survivors provides the opportunity
to share experiences in a guided setting. Meetings are held on the third
Thursday of every month from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Eagle classroom.
Participation in confidential support groups offers many benefits, including
increased sense of empowerment and control, better coping skills, a clearer
understanding of what to expect, and reduced loneliness, depression, and anxiety.
