St. John's Medical Center (SJMC) and Sublette County Rural Health Care
District (SCRHCD) are pleased to announce a new partnership agreement.
SJMC operates a full-service hospital, Living Center, and eight primary
care and specialty physician practices based in Jackson, WY. SCRHCD is
a county-owned and operated health care system in Sublette County that
operates two primary and urgent care clinics as well as EMS services.
The affiliation is expected to:
• Improve the coordination of medical care for patients who require
the services of both health systems, including ease of scheduling and
transmission of information
• Provide educational opportunities for physicians, hospital, and
• Facilitate joint efforts in quality improvement, development of
services, purchasing agreements, information technology, and marketing
• Maintain physician and patient provider preference
"The agreement we have formalized provides a framework for expanding
services and increasing coordination of care between our two medical communities,"
said St. John's Medical Center CEO Lou Hochheiser, MD. "Our organizations
have a long history of working together to deliver essential medical services
in northwest Wyoming."
"The affiliation will strengthen our relationship through a concerted
effort to enhance the care of our patients and provide a seamless network
of health care services starting with the primary care offered in our
clinics including routine, urgent and emergent care to the advanced, specialty
care provided at St. John’s," said SCRHCD Administrator Malenda
"It is the goal that through this affiliation there will be an ongoing
collaborative effort to provide community educational offerings as well
as opportunities to enhance our clinical and operational efficiencies
to assure optimal patient outcomes for the residents of Sublette County.
We could not ask to affiliate with a stronger partner that understands
and supports the health care in Sublette County,” Hoelscher added.
St. John's Medical Center and Sublette County Rural Health Care District
are members of a group of independent community hospitals throughout the
western U.S that are now affiliated with University of Utah Health Care.
Spurred on by growing economic, regulatory, and operational challenges,
many stand-alone hospitals are pursuing affiliations with larger health
systems in order to survive and thrive in the new healthcare environment.
Expenses for hospitals are projected to increase and net revenues will
be reduced due to greater compliance requirements and reimbursement cuts.
In addition to their clinical value, affiliations with high quality systems
are expected to improve quality of care and financial sustainability for
small independent hospitals.
