The lunchtime learning presentation, “Music, Memories, and the Brain,”
featuring Petr Janata, PhD, will be held on Wednesday, March 16 from 12:00
to 1:00 p.m. at the Teton County Library. The presentation is co-sponsored
by St. John’s Medical Center Words on Wellness and the Grand Teton
Music Festival as part of its Winter Music series.
In this presentation, Dr. Janata will discuss how music is an effective
trigger of nostalgia, the effects of music-evoked memories on the brain,
and how personalized music programming may improve quality of life for
individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Janata is a professor in the University of California Davis Psychology
Department and Center for Mind and Brain. A recipient of the Fulbright
and Guggenheim fellowships, Dr. Janata uses musical structure to analyze
behavioral and brain data. His projects often examine the relationship
between imagery, memory, emotion, and rhythm, focusing specifically on
musical situations that elicit strong emotional experiences.
