In a historic event, St. John’s will celebrate the 100th anniversary
of the dedication of the first St. John's Hospital on Friday, September
9, from 10:30 am until noon. The event will take place under the big white
tent outside the hospital main entrance at 625 East Broadway.
The ceremony, "Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Future," features
remarks by Governor Matt Mead and John Turner of Triangle X Ranch. Additional
speakers include St. John’s Medical Center and Hospital Foundation
officials and board members who will speak about the past and future of
the Medical Center. Speakers include Mike Tennican, Bruce Hayse, MD, Lou
Hochheiser, MD, Paul Beaupré, MD, Chuck Fleischmann, and Cynthia Hogan.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to meet our new
CEO Paul Beaupré, who started this week, and to express appreciation
to Lou Hochheiser for his years of service," said communications
officer Karen Connelly.
The winners of the youth essay contest will also be recognized. First
place winners for the three age categories are Silvia Kim-Miller, Aidan
Kim-Miller, and Josie Berry. Essay contest submissions will be on display
at the celebration. The full list of the youth essay contest participants
and winners will be posted on
www.sjmc100.org/essaycontest on Friday.
At the close of the ceremony, the anniversary time capsule will be installed,
to be opened in 2066. Time Capsule contents, suggested by hospital staff
and community members, include medical items as well as items that represent
Jackson Hole in 2016.
Between 10:30 and 11:00 am, St. John’s will give away commemorative
items, including books and DVDs about the hospital’s 100-year history.
During that time, attendees can also view the contents of the anniversary
time capsule as well as the entries to the youth essay contest. Hot appetizers
and refreshments will be available, accompanied by music by The Minor Keys.
