The Wyoming Alzheimer’s Task Force will host a town hall session
in Jackson on Thursday, March 30 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Teton County Library.
The task force is looking for input from people with ideas for how Wyoming
can best address Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The meeting
will be run by a professional facilitator. Light refreshments will be served.
“This information-gathering exercise will help guide decisions by
the task force,” said Martha Stearn, MD, an internal medicine physician
and founder of
St. John’s Cognitive Health. “Further, it will help us determine where gaps exist in services
for those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The Jackson
session will be particularly helpful as we address future dementia services
at our Living Center.”
Additional town hall sessions will be conducted throughout the state in
March and April. The Wyoming Alzheimer’s Task Force will use information
gathered during these meetings to develop a state plan to address Alzheimer’s
disease in Wyoming. This plan will identify available resources, detect
resource gaps, map opportunities to improve the lives of those with dementia,
guide Alzheimer’s disease policy in the future, and provide legislative
guidelines for developing funding for dementia care.
The Wyoming Alzheimer’s Task Force was convened by Governor Matt
Mead in 2015 and includes representatives from St. John’s Medical
Center, AARP, Wyoming Department of Health, Alzheimer’s Association-WY,
UW Center on Aging, and others.
Dr. Stearn has been instrumental in getting the task force underway and improving
services for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
