St. John's Medical Center to Light the Town Pink

30-Sep-2016

St. John's Medical Center kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Tuesday, October 4 at 5:30 pm, with "Light the Town Pink." Due to anticipated inclement weather, the event will move this year from its customary location on the Town Square to the Wort Hotel at 50 N. Glenwood.

The evening will feature cancer awareness giveaways, information on cancer services, brief remarks about local advances and resources for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer, and a free drawing for ski passes and mammograms.

"The Medical Center and St. John's Hospital Foundation are working together to improve women's health with new state-of-the-art equipment and technology, along with more community education and a directed effort to reduce financial barriers that may prevent some women from seeking the medical care they need," said Karen Connelly, communications officer. "Light the Town Pink helps us all remember the importance of health screenings, celebrate survivors, and learn what resources are available."

"The Foundation's Women's Health Care Fund provides assistance for women who need, but cannot afford, preventive health services such as mammograms," said Jennifer Simon, St. John's Hospital Foundation Vice President. The Foundation also raised funds to make the purchase of new 3D mammography for the medical center. "Women can now get the best images possible for early detection," Simon added.

Raffle prizes at Light the Town Pink include a weekend pass to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, a season ski pass to Snow King Mountain, and gift certificates for mammograms. Each attendee over age 17 will receive one free raffle ticket. Additional tickets are available with a donation to the St. John's Hospital Foundation Women's Health Care Fund. Suggested donation is $20 per ticket or $50 for three tickets. Tickets are available at the event between 5:30 and 6:00 pm. You must be present at the drawing to win.

Remarks will begin at 6:00 pm by St. John’s CEO Dr. Paul Beaupre, board member Cynthia Hogan, radiologist Dr. Robert Jones, oncology nurse practitioner Kerry Carr, and community member Mercedes Huff. The free drawing will follow.

Families are invited to a reception in the Wort’s Showroom from approximately 6:30 pm until 7:00 pm. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. The Wort’s regular Tuesday night band, One Ton Pig, will play beginning at 7:30 pm.

St. John’s Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital Foundation thank Soroptimist of Jackson Hole, Stripping for a Cure, Jackson Hole Women’s Bowling Association, The Spur, Fine Dining Restaurant Group, the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, and donors to the Foundation for supporting the Women’s Health Care Fund. The purchase of the 3D mammography was made possible by St. John’s Medical Center Auxiliary, the Teton Pines Women’s Golf Association, and individual donors to the St. John’s Hospital Foundation. The Wort Hotel and a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation's Wyoming Affiliate helped support Light the Town Pink.
