Women’s Imaging Center of Excellence

Women’s Health Services in Jackson, WY

Imaging plays an important role in a woman’s health care routine. By age 21, women should be making regular visits to the gynecologist for health screenings. Numerous health organizations, including the US. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), The American Cancer Society (ACS), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the American College of Radiology (ACR), agree that women should receive a mammogram once a year starting at age 40.

At St. John’s Medical Center, we are committed to fighting breast cancer, so we designed the Women’s Imaging Center so that our patients can receive discrete, personalized care in a comfortable setting. We listen carefully to our patients so that we can offer them effective treatment that meets their preferences and works towards their health goals.

Women’s Imaging Services

  • 3D Mammography – Standard mammograms create flat images of breast tissue. St John’s state-of-the-art 3D mammography equipment takes multiple images of the breast to create a 3D image that allows for better detection of tumors and abnormalities. This technology has been reported to be 40% more effective at detecting breast cancer than 2D mammography.
  • Softer Mammogram Provider - St. John’s is a certified “Softer Mammogram Provider,” a distinction given to medical centers that make use of the Mammopad. The Mammopad is a soft cushion provided during mammograms that make the procedure softer, warmer, and more comfortable.
  • Breast Ultrasound Imaging – We typically perform breast ultrasounds in conjunction with clinical exams, mammography, and breast MRI to determine treatment for breast abnormalities. We also use ultrasounds to perform minimally invasive Guided Needle-Core Biopsies.
  • Breast Biopsy – A biopsy is the extraction of an irregular tissue sample to determine the cause of the abnormality. St. John’s makes us the Selenia Dimensions 3D imaging technology integrated with the Affirm breast biopsy guidance system. This allows our team to better target lesions that can only be found in 3D images and perform shorter, safer procedures.
  • R2 Image Checker – The R2 Image Checker is an innovative computer program that scans imaging results for abnormalities. Functioning like a spell checker on a word processing program, the R2 Image Checker is a second pair of eyes looking at each mammogram. It increases detection of masses and suspicious calcifications that may be too small to be seen by the human eye.
  • Bone Densitometry – Osteoporosis is a bone disease that is more common in women and often is not found until after someone suffers an injury. With St. John’s dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), we can perform a quick, painless bone density scan to diagnose osteoporosis and begin treatment before you get hurt.

Accreditation Frequently Asked Questions

What should I know about radiation safety?

Before your imaging procedure be sure to ask your physician the following questions:

  • Why is the test needed?
  • How will having the test improve my care?
  • Are there alternatives that do not use radiation and deliver similar results?
  • Is the facility accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR)?
  • Are pediatric and adult tests delivered using the appropriate radiation doses?

Why should I have my imaging exam done at an accredited facility?

When you see the gold seals of accreditation prominently displayed in our imaging facility, you can be sure that you are in a facility that meets standards for imaging quality and safety. Look for the ACR Gold Seals of Accreditation.

To achieve the ACR Gold Standard of Accreditation, our facility's personnel qualifications, equipment requirements, quality assurance, and quality control procedures have gone through a rigorous review process and have met specific qualifications. It's important for patients to know that every aspect of the ACR accreditation process is overseen by board-certified, expert radiologists and medical physicists in advanced diagnostic imaging.

What does ACR accreditation mean?

  • Our facility has voluntarily gone through a vigorous review process to ensure that we meet nationally-accepted standards of care.
  • Our personnel are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform mdical imaging, interpret your images, and administer your radiation therapy treatments.
  • Our equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment you will receive, and our facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.

What does the gold seal mean?

When you see the ACR gold seal, you can rest assured that your prescribed imaging test will be done at a facility that has met the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety. The facility and its personnel have gone through a comprehensive review to earn accreditation status by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the largest and oldest imaging accrediting body in the U.S. and a professional organization of 34,000 physicians.
