Preventing illness is an essential part of your health care, and as a comprehensive
care facility, St. John’s Medical Center is proud to offer a host
of health and wellness services in Teton County. In the last few years,
we have added numerous services to help the people of our community be
well. It’s easier and less expensive to prevent health conditions
than to treat them - these preventive community programs give you a chance
to live a healthier lifestyle as you journey toward optimal health.
wellness coaching helps clients reach optimal health and well-being. Our coaches guide clients
in developing and achieving personal goals through facilitating behavior
changes that lead to sustainable, healthy lifestyles.
- All St. John's Wellness coaches have a bachelor’s degree or higher
in a health-related field and are certified by the Wellcoaches School
of Coaching which is endorsed by the American College of Sports Medicine.
- Coaching sessions are complemented by additional referrals to a Physical
Therapist and Registered Dietician at no additional cost to the client.
The Wellness Department works closely with the St. John’s dietary
department to make healthy changes to the food that we offer to visitors,
patients, and employees. Exciting changes include the introduction of
local produce, local antibiotic-free meats, naturally flavored soda waters,
and new nutritious daily specials.
We also offer
nutrition counselling services, where you can work with a registered dietitian to create a diet specifically
designed to prevent various medical conditions.
The Healing Touch Program is used as a complement to standard medical care
in over 100 hospitals. It works with the body’s natural energy to
promote healing. Providers use their hands above or on the body, using
gentle touch with the intent of clearing, energizing and balancing the
human and environmental energy fields. Benefits of Healing Touch include
reduced stress, decreased pain, lowered anxiety and depression, enhanced
recovery from surgery, supporting cancer care, and easing acute and chronic
The Wellness Department’s Healing Touch providers are specially selected
clinical staff who have completed the minimum 18-hour Healing Touch Level
I certification. Providers offer Healing Touch sessions to patients free
of charge to enhance their experience in the hospital.
Chronic Disease Self-Management (CDSM) program is a six-week group program offered in either English or
Spanish. Instructed by Stanford certified CDSM leaders, this program focuses
on building self-efficacy skills and is appropriate for anyone with a

Through their Lunchtime Learning and Words on Wellness programs, the Wellness
Department periodically hosts speakers for the community on wellness topics.
Past topics have included nutrition, diabetes and chronic disease prevention.
Tobacco Cessation Counseling
Tobacco cessation counseling sessions follow evidence-based protocol and
utilize free nicotine replacement therapies offered by statewide quit
programs. Tobacco Cessation counseling is provided by a Mayo Clinic trained
tobacco cessation specialist.
Affordable Care Act navigation
ACA navigation assists individuals in understanding their health insurance
options on the Individual Wyoming marketplace and is provided by certified
Annual Community Health Fair
The SJMC Wellness Department coordinates the Annual Community Health Fair
where free evidence-based medical screenings are offered at no cost to
community members. In 2019, 26 different screenings were offered and in
2018, over 800 screenings were completed.
